PRESS RELEASE Title of the Press Release: President Trump un-bans bringing slain elephant and lion trophies back into the US. Legislation opens doors for Americans to join in the wildlife pillaging in rudderless Zimbabwe. Dateline New York. 17 November 2017 President Trump causes outrage by announcing the un-banning of bringing elephant and lion trophies back to the USA. The U.S. Government has overturned legislation that had been set in place to discourage trophy hunters of endangered species. Yesterday’s announcement from the Interior Department will not only allow sport-hunting trophies for 2017 to come into the United States, but it will also permit entry of those from 2016. This regulatory manoeuvre pretends that Zimbabwe has strict controls and a sound wildlife management program. The facts are otherwise. This is a nation run by a ruthless dictator who has murdered political opponents and citizens. On his watch Zimbabwe’s wildlife and forests are looted by the Chinese. Herds of elephant are poisoned by cyanide. What defies understanding is why the U.S. government would allow American trophy hunters to import trophies when they are unlikely to find an airline that will carry them into the country. After the killing of Cecil, 43 airlines, including all major U.S. carriers, said they would no longer ship lion trophies in the cargo holds of their planes. The Animal Community in this country needs to mobilize and send a message the all the airlines demanding that they not transport these gruesome cargos. The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force is one of many conservation groups who are calling for an investigation of the relationship between the Safari Club International (SCI) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and /or individuals at each organization that may have influenced Ryan Zinke in his official capacity. It is no secret that Trump’s sons are enthusiastic trophy hunters. Thousands of his constituents belong to the NRA who donated millions of dollars to his campaign. Many groups plan to contact Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump. Recently she was praised by Wayne Pacelle, President of the Humane Society of the USA as being “an invaluable advocate in raising issues at the highest levels of the White House and with the executive agencies.” He went on to say the “she has given the issue considerable credibility with major decision makers.” One wonders how an animal activist deals with her husband happily posing with dead animals in Africa. Rodrigues urges everyone to campaign to tell the GOP that they have forfeited the right to use the elephant as their party symbol. “It is time that trophy hunting is banned. Like slavery it is an abomination. The Trump legacy will be judged harshly by historians. Trump said he was going to make America great again. Has he not heard that the greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated, as Mahatma Gandhi said.
